Roy D. McAnnally, M.S., Ph.D., D.M.D.

Dr. McAnnally, a native of the Detroit area, grew up in Oakland County, Michigan– less than 5 miles from where he has practiced orthodontics for nearly 30 years. He received a Doctor of Dental Medicine, DMD, degree in 1974 from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and continued at the same institution to complete the postgraduate program in orthodontics in 1976.

Dr. McAnnally’s educational aspirations began early in his career. Before entering the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine Dr. McAnnally had already earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan; a Master of Science degree from Wayne State University; and a PhD degree in Microbiology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas. His educational goals have not ended. In 1999 Dr. McAnnally earned a Master of Science in Finance and throughout his many years of practice he has stayed at the forefront of new advances in orthodontics by attending continuing education seminars regularly.

His continued commitment to quality orthodontic treatment and advances in the practice of orthodontics was most recently recognized in 2005 when he was designated both an Invisalign® Premier Provider and a member of Align Technology’s Century Club – the 100 largest Invisalign providers in the world.

Dr. McAnnally places strong emphasis on the prevention, interception, and correction of orthodontic (dental) and dentofacial orthopedic (skeletal) imbalances of very young children, teens, and adults. He also places special emphasis on the management of temporomandibular joint and myofascial pain disorders, and sleep apnea. His current efforts are focused on two major areas of contemporary orthodontic interest. The first is low friction, self-ligating fixed appliance therapy vis-à-vis Ormco’s Damon-3 bracket system, 3-M Unitek’s Smart Clip, Strite Industries’ Speed Bracket, GAC’s Innovation-R bracket, and a forthcoming self-ligating Lancer bracket that we will soon be examining. The second is on invisible modalities of treatment including the aligner therapies of Invisalign and others.
